Foodie Files: Señor Bear
Tuesday celebrated the end of my first year in Denver! It's been a fun and exciting last year in Denver, and I decided I would go out to celebrate. I was craving a charceuterie board and decided to go to Old Major. However...after I drove there, discovered they're closed on Tuesdays. Damn.
Luckily, as I was initially finding parking, I noticed Señor Bear, which I had been wanting to try. Señor Bear it is!
Señor Bear is the newest establishment from Juan Padro of Highlands Tap & Burger and Sloan's Lake Tap & Grill (My favorite sports bar! I was happy to see Chanel and Juan and knew I was right at home). Located where Jezebel's Southern Bistro was previously located, it is a prime location and its Latin-inspired flair is a much-needed addition to the LoHi neighborhood. Since the cuisine is Latin-inspired, it was only right to order a daiquiri! Cheers to Year 1!
Next, I ordered the Mezcal de Fiesta--a mixture of candied cashews, garlic chili peanuts, and corn with a hint of cilantro and lime. What a savory treat! I especially liked the cashews. They had a unique taste, then my server Chelsea came by to check on me and said they taste like Fruit Loops to her. That's it!!! The cashews did have a hint of Fruit Loops taste. How fun! I took the leftovers home to much over Netflix that night.
For my entree, I quickly settled on the mole grouper tacos after Chelsea recommended them. I love fish tacos! They're one of the reasons I miss Florida. Anyway, the grouper was perfectly cooked and flaky, and I loved all the accompanied toppings. I mixed and matched each taco for different tastes and textures. The shishito peppers were a nice fit with the grouper--I need to try that at home (yeah, right!).
In sum, I love Señor Bear! Each dish was unique in taste and perfectly flavourful. I definitely want to try their queso, churros, and sample a few of their other cocktails next time.
