Foodie Files: Stanley Beer Hall
Waaaay back in October, I won a contest to 5280 Magazine to attend the 5820 Dines event (see here). Part of my contest winnings was a gift certificate to Stanley Beer Hall. Only one problem…it didn’t open until several months after the event. Suddenly, I remembered I had the voucher this month and off to Aurora I go!
Located in the new Stanley Marketplace, Stanley Beer Hall is just that—a beer hall. Industrial design, long community-style tables for large party, and foliage throughout, Stanley Beer Hall appeared to be the place to be on a Saturday night. I admired the decor and cute silverware container immediately.
We ordered a few appetizers to start— Devils on Horseback (bacon wrapped dates with a maple sauce, peppers, and onions), Brussels Sprouts (with bacon, apple, parmesan, and nuts), and Macaroni and Cheese Gratin. OMG!!! Had we not ordered our entrees at the same time, we could have ordered a second round of each of these and called it a night! The dates were the clear winner of the three. Complex sweet, salty, nutty, and creamy flavors with each bite. Yum!
For entrees we ordered the Spicy Italian Sausage and the Marinated Flank Steak. Look at that sausage!!! Wow! A hefty sausage served with a light salad. I ordered the flank steak. I know this whole post is written in hyperbole (but honest!), but it was the most tender flank steak I’ve ever had, and was servedool bleu cheese. It was served with large portion of shoestring French fries which had a hint of truffle oil, I believe. Beyond impressed!
Overall, I loved every bit of the meal. I can definitely see myself returning for happy hours to sample more of the small plates at Stanley Beer Hall. The service was also great, as each staff member we interacted with was friendly and accommodating. Great new addition to Aurora’s new market.
