Out on The Town: Whiskey and Doughnuts
Whiskey. Doughnuts. Enuf said!
After the Five Points Jazz Festival, I ventured to the McNichols Building for the 5th Annual Whiskey Throwdown and Doughnut Showdown.
Given the interest in the event, there were two times slots available and I selected the latter. Upon walking into the building, you were greeted and immersed in a whiskey and doughnut wonderland! Doughnut decorations, doughnut table settings, doughnut puzzles…even doughnut cornhole! Oh my! I’m not a whiskey drinker, but whiskey was flowing throughout the venue alongside the doughnuts.
As far as doughnuts go, Lamar’s Doughnuts and Habit Doughnuts were my favorites. Lamar’s Doughnuts are a Denver staple and you now get them delivered via drone! Habit Doughnuts served a yummy Grand Marnier doughnut.
For us non-Whiskey drinking folks, there were several other vendors providing samples of various libations. However, one of the biggest hits of the evening (aka the longest line) was Ol’ Major, bacon bourbon! The distributors even provided bacon flavored salt in order to take a shot! Yum! Another one of my favorite drinks came from Punching Mule, a canned Moscow Mule which tastes exactly like a mule mixed at a bar! I ran to the store near my place and picked up a four-pack immediately.
In sum, this was a fun and tasty event. The proceeds supported Minds Matter of Denver, an organization that provides mentoring to college-boundstudents from low socioeconomic backgrounds. I’ll gladly return in 2018!
