Popcorn Addict: Guardians of the Galaxy 2
I am Groot!
I am Baby Groot.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 follows its 2014 box office blowout predecessor. Having grossed over $300 million in the U.S. alone, the sequel had a lot to live up to. This Guardians sequel kicked off in high gear with an opening musical sequence featuring a lot of Baby Groot. From there, you knew you were in for a ride!
All of your favorites are back—Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Drax (the hilarious Dave Bautista), and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel—though how? Like how much does he get paid for this?!?!).
Unfortunately, I cannot say much more about this film without spoiling. Fortunately, most of the content in the trailers occurs within the first act of the film. Therefore, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. The main twist toward the end, but both predictable and still surprising.
The cinematography and CGI were outstanding. I did not see the film in 3D, but would like to. As far as acting, both Michael Rooker (as Yondu) and Kurt Russell (as Ego) were standouts! Drax also came into his own during this film, too. And Baby Groot is freaking adorable.
The only bummer was some of the jokes that were spoiled in the trailers. The jokes would have landed better in context had we not heard them before. Studios quit spoiling these and let the audience laugh!
In sum, Guardians 2 is a must-see! With a lot to live up to, the film kept the same pace as the original with the same glitzy musical scenes. The story was simple, but also opened doors for the next film of the series. Some may argue seeing it a couple of times, as there were several Easter Eggs throughout. As always, the Stan Lee appearance is not where you would suspect it. Remember to stay for the end credit scenes too (yes, scenes…there are 5!).
