Popcorn Addict: Everything, Everything

SPOILER ALERT: Girl meets hot guy without ever leaving the house. If dating life were only that easy.

You’ll get that joke once you see the movie…

Everything, Everything (based on the 2015novel by Nicola Yoon of the same title) is a story about a 18-year-old girl named Madeline (Amandla Stenberg; Rue from The Hunger Games and woke young lady extraordinaire) who has a severe autoimmune illness where she cannot leave the home because she is allergic to everything. A family moves in next door and that family has a nice looking son, Olly (Nick Robinson; Melissa and Joey) who she has a crush on. However, the two cannot meet each other in person because of her illness and her strict, overprotective mother (the lovely Tony-winner Anika Noni Rose; Dreamgirls, The Princess and the Frog).

I saw the trailer for this movie a few months ago and was interested because of Amandla Stenberg and thought the concept was interesting; thus, when I received an early (a month away!) screener, I was all for it. I have never read the book, but the story line was well established and easy to follow. Each of the actors in this film were strong and convincing which kept the audience engaged. This was not an easy feat, as the film was primarily set in one location—Maddy’s house. Although the end is quite predictable, I was not bothered by it. The movie was a cute and enjoyable young adult romance. You can’t help but smile throughout it.

Overall: This is a good PG-13 film the whole family can enjoy. My audience laughed throughout the movie. Some parts I didn't get why they were laughing so hard; as if they were a laugh track. I digress. Also, the soundtrack was excellent! Alabama Shakes, Alessia Cara, and several tracks I didn't know but enjoyed.

Everything, Everything will be released to theaters nationally on May 19.
