Foodie Files: The Nickel
Another Denver Restaurant Week excursion! Located on 14th Street, in downtown Denver across from The Oceanaire and Epernay Lounge, The Nickel is a upscale restaurant off the lobby of the Hotel Teatro. It is a gorgeous, chic restaurant! During my Restaurant Week search, The Nickel had the one of the best menus listed; therefore, I was super excited I could make it here.
For my first course, I had the potato leek soup. Creamy and cheesy with sprinkles of chives. On top was garnish of crostini with bacon. The soup was divine!
For my main entrée, I selected the New Caledonian Prawns. Three large pawns covered lightly with a lime and garlic sauce. Each bite was lovely making me wish there was three more (okay, not really because I’m so stuffed). For a side, I selected the cauliflower. A beautifully cut cauliflower steak (I need to step up my knife skills!), roasted and covered with cheddar. Underneath the cauliflower square was a bed of cauliflower rice with red beans.
For dessert, I ordered the Jar D’crème…. but accidently received the Strawberry Shortcake. I didn’t complain because when I tried a bite, it was so light, fluffy, and refreshing. What a wonderful mistake.
Overall, I enjoyed The Nickel! Everyone around me had beautiful dishes and charcuterie boards—I will grab my Ewephoria cheese next time! I heard the words, “Oh my God” during the first bite of each patron’s meal. If you can make it for Restaurant Week, it is well worth the $35 price tag.
