Scandal: S7 E1 Watch Me
That strut tho! The strut of all struts. Fight the Power! How do I get my hair to bounce like that every day? I need to do a wardrobe overhaul. In sum, Scandal is back!
The announcement of Luna Vargas’ death has come, Cyrus is now VP, and Mellie is rolling in office. Liv is working her fierceness and already coercing Senators to help garner support for the free college bill. Olivia Pope is not playing around this season.
OPA—oops, now Quinn Perkins & Associates (QPA)—is struggling for clients. One finally walks in the door but they are in over their head as they have been tasked to find a woman’s father who is a CIA agent. Unfortunately, they need to seek Olivia’s help with something this high profile. Jake’s plan to kill him because they cannot Bashrani government know about their involvement in their country. Olivia isn’t having it—killing a patriot—and Jake pitches his plan to Mellie! Disobeying B613 is not the way to go, Jake. Olivia went rouge and was able to retrieve the agent back by manipulating (i.e., threatening) the Bashranian ambassador’s children (with Huck's help). No one crosses Olivia Pope! Mellie and Olivia have an EPIC showdown in the Oval Office resulting in Olivia reminding Mellie that she runs this office.
It’s obvious that Olivia doesn’t trust anyone. This episode she put Cyrus’ loyalty to the test! Dangling a Presidential carrot in front of his face, but he didn’t bite it. Good for Cyrus! Mellie even noted his changing attitude.
Another side plot is Olivia having a love-hate relationship with late-night political correspondent, Curtis Pryce. He’s crushing on her hard, they go to dinner; however, they don’t eat and just go hook up. We don’t care for this ‘ship. AT ALL. Especially since Olivia was still hooking up with Jake this episode and she’s giving long glances at Fitz being features on TV.
Quote(s) of the Week:
- Mine. Before, you asked, “In what world?” Mine. –Olivia
- Put your faith in me, and and me alone, and you’ll be a monument. Ignore me...and you’ll be an asterisk.—Olivia
Overall: The white hat is gone! Olivia was even wearing mostly black (including a black Birkin) all episode. This will be an interesting final season.
Prediction(s): Liv needs to heed her father’s warnings. I don’t think Olivia will be able to maintain this steady pace until the end. We’ll see how all this power gets to her.
