Cool Down Sunday: Humility
Humility (noun): the quality or state of being humble; the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people.
Humility and empathy (i.e., the ability to share someone else's feelings) are important character traits. Our capitalistic culture places too much emphasis on "things," appearances, and external achievements. Meanwhile many people with these things are unhappy, unfulfilled, and have few people around them who truly care about their well-being.
Social media also holds a magnifying glass to this. You know the braggart on your Facebook or IG page. The Mr./Ms./Mrs. Me Too. Focus on themselves and not their community or world around them. Make sure you keep your space and, again, engage in self-care in order not to get caught in the social media smoke and mirrors of their social media "life."
We at KCSO try to depict events in our lives--both the good and not-so-good--in order to show real balance in life. This Thanksgiving week, stay true to yourself and take time to self-reflect on who you are.
