Foodie Files: Panzano

Chris Rock made a stop in Denver for his Blackout Tour. Of course I needed to see him, especially in this current political climate. A friend of mine and her beau were also attending, so we arranged to go to dinner before the show. She suggested Panzano, one of her favorite Denver restaurants. Let’s go!

Housed within the fabulous Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, Panzano is located off of 17th St and Champa. Beautiful décor with an open kitchen near our seat. As soon as I sat down, I was given a wine list on a tablet where I was able to take my time reading descriptions of wine, beer, and cocktails before making my final decision. Pretty cool!

First, we ordered the Cavolini di Bruxelles for the table. Fried brussel sprouts dressed in an apple cider reduction and julienned green apple. I devoured this!!! I’m almost mad I had to share this dish. If you are with a small group, I would definitely order as an appetizer.

For my entrée, I ordered the Pesce Fresco. Arctic char with carrots, smoked celery root, broccolini, and pickled mustard. The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky, and paired well with the celery root and pickled mustard. Yum! The veggies made it a well-rounded entrée.

My company both ordered one of the specials—a pasta with fennel, radicchio, and shrimp. I had one bite and it was amazing! If this dish is still around, I would suggest ordering it.

We were all a bit too full for dinner, considering we knew we had some heavy laughing to do. In sum, Panzano was a lovely upscale restaurant. The meal was one of the best I’ve had since moving to Denver. There are several other items I would love to try and will be back in the future, especially when friends or family visiting.
